RT Group, Inc. (RTG) was retained by S&R/Pihl, a Joint Venture (SRP) to prepare Plans and Specifications for the partial demolition of the Pawtucket Bridge as well as several overpasses in the immediate area of the Bridge.
The demolition of the overhang on the existing Pawtucket Bridge was required to provide clearance for the construction of the new bridge. Calculations were performed to check the existing bridge for construction equipment loading as well as for the design of construction shielding for protection of the work taking place below.
Demolition shielding was also designed for several overpasses in the area of the Bridge which were being replaced or reconstructed. In addition, temporary shoring towers for the overpasses were designed to allow for replacement of the existing reinforced concrete piers.
