Traffic Feasibility Study for NBC Sewer Interceptor Relief Project 2

RT Group, Inc. (RTG) was retained by Walsh Construction Co. of Illinois to perform a Traffic Maintenance Feasibility Study. The Study was necessary to maintain traffic flow during the construction of a Narragansett Bay Commission (NBC) Sewer Interceptor Relief Project.

RTG assessed alternatives to maintain a single lane of traffic along Promenade Street in Providence, RI, which runs adjacent to the Woonasquatucket River. The proposed sewer interceptor relief structure was located in the center of Promenade Street, which serves as a main artery leading from the Providence Place Mall. The alternatives included diverting traffic around the excavation using temporary support-of-excavation methods; bridging the excavation with an independently pile supported temporary bridge; and constructing a temporary bridge integral with the existing support of excavation.
