RT Group, Inc. (RTG) was retained by NATCO Products Corporation during the record flooding that occurred in March 2010 to provide design and consultation on a 24-hour period basis in order to help prevent their high-hazard dam from being overtopped. RTG coordinated with local and State EMA, including providing regular updates and briefings; coordinated with RIDEM, Dam Safety and FERC, keeping them apprised; and designed the overtopping protection for both the left and right abutments, as well as a temporary steel access bridge to allow equipment to get onto the left abutment of the dam. RTG also coordinated with the site contractors retained by NATCO for the above work and for the removal of the timber flashboards. Emergency-Response-Arctic-Dam-West-Warwick-3-RIThe joint efforts by NATCO Products Corporation, RTG, and the local contractors that were retained prevented the dam from being overtopped and helped to protect life and property located immediately downstream of the dam. Following the emergency response work, RTG was retained by NATCO Products Corporation to complete a thorough inspection of the dam, document any damage that occurred as a result of the flooding, and prepare plans and specifications to complete necessary repairs.
