RT Group, Inc. (RTG) was retained by NATCO Products Corporation to complete repairs to the existing low-level outlet structure at the Arctic Dam Hydroelectric Plant in West Warwick, RI. The outlet consisted of an inoperable timber sluice gate and severely corroded riveted steel outlet pipe (circa 1800s), both of which were causing substantial leakage through the dam. The repairs include replacing the existing sluice gate with a new stainless steel sluice gate and slip lining the existing low-level outlet pipe with a new HDPE pipe.
As a part of this project, RTG oversaw a dive inspection of the existing low-level outlet components and performed a topographic survey of the abutment through which the low-level outlet is located. RTG also coordinated with and obtained FERC and RIDEM approvals, prepared Plans and Specifications for bidding and construction, provided bid phase services, and provided construction phase services.
