RT Group, Inc. was retained by NATCO Products Corporation to complete repairs to the spillway and toe of the Arctic Dam. The repairs were required as a result of the record flooding that occurred in March 2010. These repairs included rebuilding collapsed sections of the downstream masonry walls, repairing the spillway masonry, and installing a new grouted rip rap apron.
RTG worked closely with the selected Contractor to minimize disruption to power generation at this hydro-electric facility. This included, but was not limited to, minimizing the number of impoundment drawdowns and utilizing materials (e.g., grout mix) that allowed the facility to go back online as practical.
The project was completed on time and on budget and FERC was kept appraised during the repair. FERC coordination also included the submission of all supporting calculations and providing FERC record documentation at completion. Following this project, RTG was retained by NATCO to develop and implement a comprehensive Owners Dam Safety Program (ODSP), including a Dam Safety Surveillance and Monitoring Plan (DSSMP) and first annual Dam Safety Survey and Monitoring Report (DSSMR).
