RT Group, Inc. was retained by the Quidnick Reservoir Company to complete repairs to the downstream apron, footbridge, and outlet structure at the Flat River Reservoir Dam. The repairs were required as a result of the record flooding that occurred in March 2010. The repairs included re-building collapsed sections of the downstream masonry walls, repairing the damaged downstream apron using grouted riprap, replacing several footbridge footings, and repairing the low-level outlet structure.
The project was undertaken in cooperation with the Town of Coventry, which is responsible for the maintenance of the dam and which secured the funds from FEMA to complete the repairs. RTG worked closely with the Town of Coventry to establish a realistic budget, complete the repair on time and on budget, and minimize the potential for overruns given a fixed repair budget was provided by FEMA.
