- Prepared the Evaluation Report and Alternatives Report
RT Group, Inc. (RTG) was retained by Southeastern New England Shipbuilding Corp. (SENESCO MARINE) to evaluate the condition of their existing concrete pavement and determine if the pavement is capable of supporting the construction of 80,000 barrel capacity and larger barges (see photo). The barges are constructed on land and moved to the launch point on steel dollies supported by railroad tracks. As part of this project, RTG completed soil borings (see photo), a Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) Investigation, and pavement coring and testing within the barge launch area. Based on the site and subsurface conditions discovered, RTG prepared a Pavement Evaluation Report and developed remedial alternatives for launching larger barges. RTG evaluated both a traditional reinforced cast-in-place concrete as well as a post-tensioned cast-in-place concrete pavements. In addition, RTG prepared plans and specifications for the selected alternative and provided inspection services during construction.
