RT Group, Inc. (RTG) was retained by Walsh Construction Company of Illinois (WALSH) to prepare select engineering submittals associated with the construction of the Narragansett Bay Commission (NBC) Woonasquatucket River Interceptor Relief (WRIR) Project (NBC Contract No. 01:302.11-C). This project included the design of a 200-foot-deep drop and vent shaft, dewatering design, support of excavation design, and construction claims support.
RTG utilized Embedded and Lined Cylinder Pipe (ECP and LCP) for the 200-foot-deep drop and vent shafts. This innovative design was developed by RTG on NBC Contract No. 01:302.08-C, and required special connection and lifting details to allow the pipe to be installed in the “wet” and in a vertical position.
This was the first time this technique had been utilized in the United States, and RTG’s design was selected by WALSH after observing its success on the other NBC Contract. RTG’s design not only saved WALSH time and money, it resulted in a product that is superior in the opinion of the NBC (the Owner).
The WRIR Project is a 2-year-long project that was completed in the summer of 2005. RTG supported WALSH during this time, and worked with two (2) other NBC Contractors; Modern Continental Construction Company of Cambridge, MA and R.P. Iannuccillo and Sons Construction Company of Providence, RI.
