RT Group, Inc. (RTG) was retained by the Quonset Development Corporation (QDC) to provide Professional Engineering Services for the evaluation and code review for an existing 30,000 SF pre-engineered clear-span metal building located in Quonset Point.
The original building was built in the late 1980’s. The building was comprised of rigid clear-span (approx. 96 feet) moment frames with metal roof and siding supported on cold-formed metal purlins and struts. The frame supported a 3-ton overhead bridge crane.
RTG was tasked to obtain as-built field measurements and evaluate the structure’s compliance with the current building code. RTG performed a preliminary structural analysis, mechanical evaluation, and a life-safety evaluation for the building. The findings were presented in a Summary Report and included a Cost Estimate for repairs and modifications required to bring the building into compliance with Code.
